Rome area business owner gunned down at his home

A Rome area business owner was shot and killed in his home over the weekend. According to reports, 47 year old Leapoldo Cardenas, owner of Celia’s Supermarket was gunned down at his home late Saturday night. Police say that two men made entry into the home and held the family at gunpoint. They eventually separated them and then one of the burglars fatally shot Cardenas. The call to Floyd County 911 was made shortly before midnight. Family members told authorities that they did not know the two men who broke into the residence. The two suspects are still at large and should be considered armed and dangerous. Cardenas’s body has been taken to the GBI Crime Lab in Atlanta for an autopsy and the investigation into the incident continues to unfold.
