The New Year’s holiday travel period ended at midnight Sunday and the Georgia State Patrol and the Department of Public Safety say that the number of fatalities was below the predicted number. According to statistics from the Georgia DOT, 2,116 traffic crashes statewide resulted in 475 injuries and 10 deaths. All of the numbers are lower that estimated. Two of the deaths reported were in Northwest Georgia. One fatal wreck was reported by the Cartersville post of the Georgia State Patrol and the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Department also worked a fatality.
