Cedartown rec softball wins World Championship
The Cedartown Dizzy Dean 14 and under softball team returned to Cedartown Sunday as World Champions after handily defeating all teams in the tournament in South Mississippi this weekend.
According to a press release, the team outscored their opponents 72 – 14 during the Dizzy Dean World Series tournament.
The team out of District 5 represented West Georgia in the state tournament, where they took the state championship, stamping their ticket to the World Series in Southaven, Mississippi this weekend.
Players on this year’s team included: Lizzie Lee, Katharine Tracy, Maddie Bowman, Tia Covington, Amber Timms, Baylee Wright, Tamera Beeman, Bay McElwee, Katrina Harris, Blair Bedford, Jameia Diamond.
The boys 14 and under Dizzy Dean team is still in the tournament as they shutout the Horn Lake all-stars Sunday 12 – 0.
Cedartown continues tournament play today at 2:30 p.m. against the Ponatauk Thunder.
