A two vehicle wreck in Cedartown early Monday morning shutdown both southbound lanes of Highway 27. According to Polk County Police reports, the wreck occurred at approximately 5:45 a.m. Monday morning, blocking both southbound lanes of Highway 27 at Lewis Road in the north end of Cedartown for nearly an hour. Redmond EMS reports that two individuals were injured, one seriously injured. The driver of a Nissan Altima, James Alex Turner of Rome, was apparently struck by a driver going the wrong way. Redmond EMS transported Turner to Floyd Medical Center were he is listed in satisfactory condition. The driver of the wrong-way Chevrolet Astro van was identified as Francisco Gomez Sales of Cedartown. He was also taken to Floyd Medical Center for treatment, but was treated and released with only minor injuries. Sales was arrested and transported to the Polk County Jail on charges of DUI, driving on the wrong side of the road, serious injury by vehicle, driving without a license and reckless driving.
