Teen Charged with Capital Murder in Cherokee County, Ala.

According to Cherokee County Sheriff Jeff Shaver, an arrest has been made in the death of Sarah Ortiz, 20, of Valley Head.

Ortiz had been reported missing from DeKalb County.

Her body was discovered by a fisherman in Weis Lake in Leesburg on July 18, 2014.

Sheriff Shaver reported on Wednesday, August 20, Riley J. Henderson, 17, of a Cedar Bluff address, was arrested and charged with capital murder.

The investigation is ongoing and no further information will be released at this time.

The Leesburg Police Department, Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office, DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office, the District Attorney’s Office, and the Etowah County Sheriff’s Office are participating in the investigation.
