PRESS RELEASE

Cedartown businessman Scotty Tillery has been selected by Probate Judge Linda Smith to fill the unexpired term of County Commissioner Billy Croker.

Croker passed away on February 21, 2015.  “I am grateful for the trust Judge Jones has placed in me and I will work hard to justify her confidence.  Billy Croker left a legacy of excellent  public service to Polk County.  Mr. Croker had a love for Polk County and its citizens just as I do . It is  an honor to represent Polk County  and I am ready to get to work,” said an elated Tillery.

A former City Commissioner with the City of Cedartown, Tillery said he is looking forward to the challenge.  “I know how to read a government budget, I know how to live by the budget, and I know how to work with the staff.  I have served on government boards, commissions, and committees for more than 18 years and anyone who has ever worked with me knows I am a workhorse, not just another politician,” he continued.

Tillery will be sworn in before  the regular County Commission meeting,  April 7  and his term will extend until December 31, 2016.

Tillery’s sees his top priorities as expanding job opportunities, increasing qualitiy of life,  developing  tourism, and improving the appearance of Polk County.  “Government is a team effort.  Building coalitions of city, county,  state and federal  agencies, non-profits, churches, private foundations, and civic associations to address these critical issues is the best way to take our communities to the next level,” said Tillery.
