Rockmart woman indicted on assault charges

A woman who is alleged to have shot her husband at their Rockmart apartment in late January has been indicted on her charges. According to the District Attorney’s office, 35 year old Brenda Lee Craig of 1050 Elm Street, Apt. 2 in Rockmart was indicted during the most recent session of the Polk County Grand Jury. However, following the indictment, Craig was released on her own recognizance. Craig allegedly shot her husband the night of January 25. A Polk County Jail docket report indicates that Craig is charged with aggravated assault and aggravated battery under the Family Violence Act. Police say she is alleged to have shot her husband with a .380 pistol at the Saddlebrook Apartment Complex. The husband, Douglas Craig, was transported to an area hospital where he was placed in the intensive care unit. An arraignment will be scheduled in four to six weeks. The case is expected to be tried on the November court calendar.
