Head on collision sends two to the hospital

Two people were treated for injuries on the scene and later taken to the hospital after a head on collision on Highway 101 Tuesday morning. According to Floyd County police, 18-year-old Jordan Salmon from Rockmart was traveling northbound in a red Ford Mustang on Highway 101 when he apparently fell asleep and crossed the center line striking a white Nissan Sentra head on. Rekha Patel, the driver of the Nissan, was trapped in her vehicle for about 20 minutes as emergency personnel worked to free her. Neither FMC nor Redmond Medical Center had any public record of Rekha Patel being treated. Both drivers were taken to the hospital with what appeared to be moderate injuries. Salmon is in Satisfactory Condition at Floyd Medical Center being treated for internal bleeding and a bruised lung according to his father David Salmon. Traffic on Highway 101 was shut down completely for a short time before one northbound lane was opened to allow traffic to pass. Jordan was cited for failure to maintain lane, no other charges are expected.
