Floyd County soldier returns, funeral set for today

A fallen hero is now back home in Floyd County. Sgt. Jeffery Jordan’s body was flown back to Rome on Thursday morning. Thousands of Romans showed up at Richard B. Russell Regional Airport and lined the streets from Marta Berry Boulevard in Armuchee to Maple Street in Lindale to honor Rome’s fallen hero. Jordan of Cave Spring, along with two other men were killed last week near Kapisa, Afghanistan. Jordan, only 21 years old, was serving with a Calhoun based Georgia National Guard Unit. Jordon is the fourth person with Floyd County ties to be killed in either Afghanistan or Iraq. The funeral for Jordon will be today at 11 AM at Pleasant Valley South Baptist Church with interment to follow at the Oaknoll Memorial Gardens with full military rites.
