A Cedartown Middle School student was struck by a Polk School District school bus this morning. According to Cedartown Assistant Police Chief Jamie Newsome, the 12 year old boy was waiting for his bus when he was struck at approximately 7:26 this morning. Witnesses on the scene say that the young boy ran out in front of the school bus in the east bound lane of Evergreen Lane close to Cherokee Elementary School. Newsome initially withheld the name of the child until both parents were notified and consent was given to release his name. Newsome said that 12 year old Wyatt Pilgrim was transported to Polk Medical Center for stabilization and to await a Children’s Healthcare LifeFlight to transport the child to Scottish Rite in Atlanta. Newsome told WGAA News that the child’s condition is not known at this time but his injuries were life threatening.  The child was also unconscious when he was initially transported to Polk Medical Center. The Cedartown Police Department is handling the investigation. Officials said he suffered a fractured skull and internal injuries. Hospital officials said he was listed in critical condition Wednesday evening.
