Third suspect in dogfighting arrested, dogs to be euthanized

A third suspect has now been arrested in connection with an investigation into alleged dog fighting in Floyd County.  34 year old Kenyatta Kenyon Towers of a Hardy Avenue address was charged with dog fighting and 26 counts of cruelty to animals.  Last week Marcus Beasley of a Pennington Avenue address and Dominique Porter of as Harper Avenue address were arrested after agents working for the Humane Society in conjunction with Floyd County police found pit bull dogs at a location on Eden Circle and South Broad Street, many of which were chained and had injuries consistent with dog fighting.  The warrants for Towers allege that he has a long history with Floyd County animal control. Meanwhile, only seven of 26 pit bulls seized last week have been adopted and 16 will be euthanized today according to Floyd County Animal Control. The seven dogs that have been adopted include an adult female dog and six of her puppies. Two adults have already been put down because they were severely aggressive. A third was euthanized because it had serious infections from being in a number of fights.
