Suspect charged with aggravated assault in Tuesday shooting

William Neal Moss, 24 is charged in connection with the Tuesday shooting

Rockmart Police have released the name of the suspect involved in a Tuesday morning shooting on Pearl Street.

According to Rockmart Police Chief Keith Sorrells, 24-year-old William Neal Moss of 312 Pearl Street, is alleged to have shot a female victim in the shoulder during an altercation inside that residence.

Moss’s girlfriend was also at the residence at the time and was also injured.

“It appears that the butt of the gun had been used to strike that victim in the head,” said Sorrells.

“The line look as if it grazed the skin, but it appears she was pistol whipped.”

The shooting victim was airlifted to Grady Hospital in Atlanta where her condition is not known at this time.

Moss is currently in the Polk County Jail facing two counts of aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Chief Sorrells says the investigation is still ongoing.

“We’re still trying to find a couple of witnesses that we were told were there at the time that we haven’t been able to locate.”

The Rockmart Police Department, Polk County Police Department, Polk County Sheriff’s Office, and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation all took part in the initial investigation.
