Rep. Trey Kelley Offers Georgia Military Scholarship Recommendation Letters

ATLANTA — State Representative Trey Kelley (R-Cedartown) recently announced that he will offer letters of recommendation to qualified Georgia high school seniors seeking the Georgia Military Scholarship at the University of North Georgia.

“As a state representative, I feel it is not only my duty to improve Georgia, but to also help prepare the next generation who will be tasked with leading our state. I can think of no better way to do that than by helping deserving students realize their dream to both attend college and serve in the Georgia Army National Guard,” said Rep. Kelley. “The 16th District is full of many bright, hardworking young leaders who I know would make great additions to the University of North Georgia and our National Guard.”

The Georgia Military Scholarship awards 42 scholarships annually, each totaling $70,000 over four years. The scholarship covers the cost of uniforms, tuition, books, fees, room, and board, as well as a monthly stipend. In addition to pursuing a bachelor’s degree from UNG, scholarship recipients will be commissioned as second lieutenants in the Georgia Army National Guard upon graduation.

Applicants must be accepted to the University of North Georgia, and are required to present a letter of recommendation from a sitting State Representative or State Senator. To qualify, applicants must also be a legal resident of Georgia, have a minimum 3.0 high school grade-point average, meet the physical and health standards for serving in the Georgia National Guard, and be a freshman entering the UNG Corps of Cadets.

The deadline for scholarship applications is February 1, 2016, and interested and potential applicants can contact Rep. Kelley’s office at (404) 657-1803.
