Long time Polk County Coroner Trey Litesey has resigned from his post as of last Thursday, according to a statement from the county manager’s office.

County manager Matt Denton says that Litesey tendered his resignation letter on Thursday of last week, saying he was stepping down for “personal reasons.”

Polk County Deputy Coroner Tony Brazier will assume the responsibilities of the coroner until probate judge Linda Smith appoints a replacement, which will likely be Brazier.

Denton said that since the resignation came so close to the November general election, the appointee will have to serve out the remaining two years left on Litesey’s term.

We hope to learn more on this story soon.
