Police arrest man on 30 counts of sexual exploitation of children

Benjamin Cody Jones (PCSO)

Local authorities arrested a Rockmart man Thursday night on a host of charges for allegedly having over two dozen images of child pornography on his cell phone.

According to Investigator Brandy Brady of the Polk County Police Department, Benjamin Cody Jones, 25, of a Prospect Road address in Rockmart, faces 30 counts of felony sexual exploitation of children after a joint investigation revealed the existence of explicit images on his smart phone.

Brady said that police had seized the phone in a previous search warrant, but was not able to access the phone’s pictures due to technical issues with the device and software used to forensically examine the phone.

He said that after discussing the case with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Child Exploitation And Computer Crimes Unit, a new technology allowed them to access the pictures on the phone.

After applying for a new search warrant, police seized the phone and found 30 separate images of child pornography.

Jones was arrested late Thursday night and taken to the Polk County Jail, where he remains at this time without bond.

Brady said that the investigation is still ongoing and that more charges could be forthcoming.
