Investigations into a local woods fire in Polk County has found that an arsonist may be at work. A fire destroyed about 61 acres of land on August 15 near Mountain Home Road. The Georgia Forestry Commission along with Polk County Fire Units worked to extinguish the flames. No homes were directly threatened by the woods fire, though some residences on Edge Road were close and Highway 100 had to be shut down while the blaze was being put out. The investigation is still continuing to find the one responsible for starting that fire.
