Man arrested after shooting on South Martiele Street

Cedartown Police have arrested a man involved in a shooting on South Martiele Street Monday afternoon.

According to Police Chief Jamie Newsome, officers arrived at the residence at 3:30 p.m. Monday to find a man laying in the front yard of the residence with a gunshot wound.  He was transported to Floyd Medical Center in Rome for treatment.

Investigators determined from witness statements that the gunshot victim was intoxicated and became irate and had threatened the residents at the home that he would come back and shoot them.  When the man left and came back with a gun, someone in the residence shot him in self defense.

Brian Corn, 34 of 1810 Rockmart Highway in Cedartown, was treated and then released into the custody of Cedartown Police.

Corn was arrested and taken to the Polk County Jail on a charge of aggravated assault.  He remains there with no bond set.  Additional charges could be forthcoming.
