No major issues yesterday as students across the county returned to the classroom for the first time this school year.

Cedartown Police Chief Jamie Newsome says day one of the new school year went without a hitch in Cedartown.

He did, however, urge motorists to continue to remain aware of school zones and to follow proper etiquette when encountering school buses.

Heavy rains did slow down the late afternoon commute, as the National Weather Service placed Cedartown under a Significant Weather Advisory.

No damage was reported locally as a result of Monday’s storms.

Elsewhere, as many as 500 Georgia Power customers near Trion and Summerville were without power as the result of light to moderate storm damage.
