Cedartown man arrested on kidnapping charges

An altercation at a local convenience store has landed a Cedartown man in jail charged with kidnapping. According to jail docket reports, Steven Vandervoet was arrested and faces felony kidnapping, and felony aggravated assault. Additionally, he faces charges of simple assault, DUI, and driving while license withdrawn, both misdemeanors. According to reports, police responded to the Marathon Convenience Store at 425 North Main Street late Tuesday night after Polk 911 received a call saying that a man at the store was armed with a knife and that he was attempting to get into a car with a female. Vandervoet allegedly pulled the knife on two other unidentified individuals. A fight broke out between the suspect and another male on the scene. Vandervoet fled the scene before police arrived, but authorities apprehended him early Wednesday and transported him to Polk County Jail were he currently remains at this time.
