Coroner and first responders under investigation for missing money

The former county coroner and several first responders have been under investigation by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation after some money was reported missing from a scene of a death back in August.

According to Greg Ramey, special agent in charge of the GBI Calhoun office, the GBI was contacted by Polk County Police to investigate the possible missing funds.

Special Agent Ramey said he could not comment further on the investigation, but did confirm that his agency is looking into the case.

Any findings that the GBI would gather from the investigation will be turned over to District Attorney Jack Browning’s office.

Former Polk County Coroner Trey Litesey tendered his resignation last week for “personal reasons,” according to a statement from county manager Matt Denton.

The case is still under investigation.
