Police investigating fatal shooting of 21-year-old Cedartown man

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation and the Cedartown Police Department are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred early Thursday morning in the east end of town.

Cedartown Police Chief Jamie Newsome says that 21-year-old Daniel Leon of a John Hand Rd. address died from a single gunshot wound to the chest.

The shooting occurred at the corner of Thompson and Jones Streets.

Leon was reportedly found alive when officers arrived and was rushed to Polk Medical Center. He later died from his injuries.

Leon’s body has been sent to the GBI Crime Lab for an autopsy.

No arrests have been made at this time as the investigation continues.
