Polk County volunteer firefighters show support at county commission work session

Several dozen of Polk County’s volunteer firefighters filled the meeting room at the Georgia State Patrol barracks Monday at a work session meeting of the Polk County Commission. Speaking at the meeting was Bob Holcomb, a long time member of the Polk County volunteer fire department. He addressed several concerns, including the need for new fire trucks. Also speaking on the subject of the volunteer fire department was Buzz Nelson. Nelson addressed several rumors going around, such as fire stations closing and regarding the EMA director position. The rumor of Elaine Anderson being fired in July was disposed by county commission chair Marshelle Thaxton, saying that no decision has yet been made.
