Polk County Sheriff’s Deputy Injured in Cedartown Car Accident

A Polk County Sheriff’s Deputy, Ben Watson, was involved in a motor vehicle accident early Thursday morning while on patrol in Cedartown. The incident, which occurred around 6:54 a.m., took place near the intersection of the western ramp of Highway 27 and Highway 278.

According to a press release from the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, Deputy Watson was traveling eastbound on Highway 278 when another vehicle, heading westbound on the same highway, turned left into his path. Deputy Watson attempted to take evasive action to avoid a collision, but his patrol vehicle struck a second vehicle that was yielding at the Highway 278 eastbound traffic. The patrol vehicle then left the roadway, striking a culvert and coming to a rest on an embankment.

Deputy Watson was transported by Advent Redmond EMS to a local medical center for treatment of his injuries. No other injuries were reported. The vehicle that turned in front of Deputy Watson’s patrol car left the scene of the accident.
