The Georgia State Patrol continues to investigate the tragic death of a Carroll County Sheriff’s Deputy Friday evening. The body of 54 year old Dave Crawford was found in the Little Tallapoosa River by officials arriving on the scene after Crawford did not answer a radio request. Captain Shane Taylor says Carroll County Fire, Ambulance and Police rushed to Carrollton-Tyus road to find the deputy’s car overturned and Crawford nowhere to be found. Initial speculation is that the accident was weather related with roads in the area covered in ice and snow. Dave Crawford has served twice with the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office; once back from 1981 through 1983 and presently from 1999 until the present. Taylor says the Sheriff’s Office is deeply saddened with the loss. Crawford is survived by his parents and wife.
