A Polk County school bus carrying 15 students was struck by a garbage truck Tuesday morning. Georgia State Patrol spokesman Sergeant Wade Chaffin says there were no serious injuries.

“The garbage truck was apparently following too close. The driver of the truck attempted to evasively, rather than strike the bus in the rear, attempted to go around the bus on its left.”

Chaffin says the garbage truck overturned when the two vehicles slid off onto a slight embankment.

“The bus did not overturn,” said Chaffin. “The school bus driver probably sustained the worst injuries which were limited to cuts and bruises, but nothing life threatening.”

Two of the children riding the bus complained of some minor injuries, but nothing serious according to Chaffin. Charges have been filed against the garbage truck driver. The accident happened on State Route 100 at Sewell Creek Road. The driver of the garbage truck was charged on the scene with improperly trying to pass a school bus.
