Over 1,000 Georgia Power customers were without power Wednesday afternoon when a severe thunderstorm formed over the north end of Cedartown and brought with it marble sized hail, 50-60 MPH wind gusts, and heavy rain and localized flooding.

According to Cedartown Police Chief Jamie Newsome, no one was hurt and only minor property damage has been reported.

The National Weather Service issued the Severe Thunderstorm Warning at about 2:48 p.m. Wednesday afternoon.

Multiple trees were down along Lakeside Drive, North College Street, West Jule Peek Avenue, West John Hand Road, and surrounding neighborhoods in north Cedartown.

The cone of power outages stretched down from Cherokee Road to about Girard Avenue and as wide from Main Street to Cave Springs Street.

Other outages were scattered throughout town.

The storm was likely a microburst that formed over Polk County and fizzled out after about 45 minutes of nonstop rain, wind, and severe hail.
