Rockmart boys hoops win in opening region game

Rockmart’s Jaylin Smith may have had one of the best individual performances of the year Tuesday evening as he led the Rockmart Yellow Jackets boys basketball team to an opening region win on the road.

Smith tallied 33 points in a 60-49 win over the Pepperell Dragons, improving Rockmart’s overall season mark to 12-3. Senior Drake Benefield break out in the second half to score 14 points, leading the Jackets to their twelfth win.

Pepperell’s DeSean Ware finished with 26 points as the team leader for the Dragons, who fall to 1-1 in Region 5AAA.

Rockmart will continue their road trip Friday night against the Haralson County Rebels.

WGAA will broadcast the boys game live on the internet at www.wgaaradio.com at 7:30 P.M.

The Lady Jackets fell to the Lady Dragons prior to the boys game 68-22.
