Armed robbery suspect turns himself in at Polk County Jail

A Rockmart man that police had been looking for for almost a month after an armed robbery turned himself into the Polk County Jail on Sunday.

According to Polk County Jail reports, Michael Brandon Pinkard, 23, of a Rockmart address, was jailed by Polk County Sheriff’s Deputies on charges of armed robbery, possession of sawed-off shotgun, sawed-off rifle, machine gun, dangerous weapon, or silencer, possession of a firearm or knife during the commission of or attempt to commit certain felonies, and probation violation.

Polk County Sheriff Johnny Moats said that Pinkard’s girlfriend convinced him to turn himself in.

Rockmart Police Detective Jerry Amos told the Polk County Standard Journal that Pinkard was the main suspect in an armed robbery on January 14 at the Handy Andy in Rockmart, where he is alleged to have held a clerk at gunpoint with a sawed off shotgun and taken $560 in cash.

Amos said that the investigation is still underway and more charges could come against Pinkard.
