Adairsville soldier to return home later this week

The name of a local serviceman who was killed in action has now been released. According to an area funeral home, 20 year old Lance Corporal Seth Sharp a Marine from Adairsville was killed Thursday in Afghanistan. According to a family member, he had arrived in Afghanistan only six weeks ago. Sharp attended Adairsville High School where he played football, but left high school early to join the Marines. He is survived by his mother Angie Sharp and his father and stepmother Rick and Tiffany Sharp, Rogers said. Sharp was killed during Operation Strike of the Sword, the latest push by the United States Marine Corps taking on the Taliban. He was serving in Company E of the 2nd Battalion, 8th Marines. Sharp is the third local serviceman killed in Afghanistan in recent weeks. His expected to arrive at the Calhoun airport around 3 p.m. Thursday. A procession will then take the fallen Marine to NorthPointe Church in Adairsville, according to officials from R. Dudley Barton & Son Funeral home. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday evening and the funeral will be Saturday at 2 p.m. Both the visitation and funeral will take place at Northpointe Church in Adairsville. Graveside services will be at Eastview Cemetery in Adairsville.
