- Continuing Education Class for Basic Residential and Light Commercial License Holders – The class will be held at Polk County Building Inspection Department on May 29th at 9am. This class will provide an update on the new requirements of the 2012 International Residential, Plumbing, Mechanical, Gas and Building Codes. A Second class will be held at 1:00pm which will cover understanding air infiltration on building and understanding heat gain and loss efforts. The cost of the class is $50.00 each or $100.00 for both and payment will be accepted at the door. For more information call 770-749-2014
- The 50th annual Cedar Valley Arts Festival will be held on Saturday, April 26 and Sunday, April 27 at the historic Peek Park in Cedartown, GA. The fine arts and crafts show will kick off with a USTAF Certified, a member of the Run and See Georgia Grand Prix Series, 5K Road Race and Fun Run at 8:00am at the Park. Registration for the race can be completed atwww.active.com, and there will be winners awarded for both female and male participants in 15 age groups. Cost of the race is $20 until April 19, then becomes $25 until day of race. In addition to fine arts and crafts and the road race, there is a children’s art exhibit, great variety of food, and live entertainment both days throughout the park. Saturday’s events run from 10:00am until 6:00pm. There will be additional festivities on Sunday from 10:00 am until 5:00pm, including a dog show at 2:00pm with registration beginning at 1;30pm. This is a family friendly event and we welcome everyone to attend for a great time
- The Cedartown Police Law Enforcement Explorers are conducting a Kiss A Pig Fundraiser -to help raise money for their group. People can purchase tickets/votes to see their favorite (or least favorite) Cedartown Police Officer and/or Explorer “kiss a pig” at the 2014 Cedartown Arts Festival, Saturday, April 26th. The officer and explorer with the most votes will have to kiss a pig. $1.00 purchases (1) one vote. Votes can be purchased with any Cedartown Police Explorer, or at the Cedartown Police Department.Money raised for the event goes to the Cedartown Police Explorer program to help furnish equipment for training, and help with competition costs.The Cedartown Police Law Enforcement Explorers are a youth group between the ages of 14-21 that are affiliated with the Cedartown Police Department and are also part of the Boy Scouts of America. It is a career oriented program that teaches youths about the aspects of the law enforcement field. The Explorers train for and participate in different competitions including an annual conference in Gatlinburg, TN. Explorers also help within our community with parades, traffic control, and health fairs along with other events such as the Child Identification Program conducted by the Masonic Lodge in conjunction with the Cedartown Exchange Club.Any one interested on getting a youth signed up for the Explorer Program or for further questions regarding the Kiss A Pig contest, you may contact Sgt.
