Rockmart man struck and killed while biking Silver Comet Trail

A bicyclist riding on the Silver Comet Trail near Esom Hill was killed after being struck by a motorist late Monday morning.

According to Polk County Deputy Coroner Tony Brazier, 53-year-old David Perkins of Rockmart was killed when he was struck by a vehicle on Hardin Rd.

Brazier says it appears the bicyclist did not look both ways and entered the roadway, crossing into the path of an Infiniti sedan.

After emergency personnel arrived, they determined that a LifeFlight was needed.

However, Perkins condition continued to worsen and emergency responders were unable to stabilize him.

He was rushed to the Polk Medical Center emergency room by Redmond EMS where he was pronounced dead at 12:27 p.m.

Perkins was reportedly biking from Rockmart to the state line and back on the Silver

The driver of the Infiniti is not expected to be charged in the accident.
