Severe Weather moves through Polk County

A line of strong thunderstorms moved through northwest Georgia late Monday afternoon, bringing with it wind gusts of up to 60 MPH and dangerous cloud-to-ground lightning.

The National Weather Service issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for southern Floyd and most of Polk County at 5:00 PM Monday, which lasted for 45 minutes.

Reports of damage were minimal, mostly downed tree limbs and some brief sporadic power outages.

Another round of weaker storms moved in, bringing more lightning and more heavy rains.

Estimates are that about three-quarters of an inch of rain fell during the storms.
