Property Tax Increase in Polk County?
It appears that county residents may see a property tax increase next year as county commissioners are considering the millage rate for fiscal year 2015. At this point, county commissioners are expected to vote on a tentative millage rate of 11.350, an increase of 0.507 mills. County Manager Matt Denton says the increase would be 4.68% over the rollback millage rate. Georgia law requires that a rollback millage rate be computed that will produce the same total revenue on the current year’s digest that last year’s millage rate would have produced had no reassessments occurred. A public hearing will be held prior to the final millage rate approval on Wednesday, July 30th, at 6 p.m. at the commissioners meeting room at the Polk County Police Department.
