Cedartown City Commissioners will be discussing the issue of blighted properties and a proposed ordinance that is intended to deal with the issue in the city.

Last week, commissioners took a driving tour of neighborhoods that are dotted with homes that fall into the blighted category.

City commissioner Jordan Hubbard says those homes not only cause security and safety issues, they also bring down the property values of surrounding homes.

He says the proposed ordinance will go after owners who do not take responsibility in taking care of their properties.

No action is expected on the proposed ordinance tonight.

Commissioners will also vote on the purchase of two new Ford police interceptors, a request coming from city bid committee.

Tonight’s meeting begins at 6:00 p.m. tonight at Cedartown City Hall and is open to the public.
