Cedartown’s Chief Municipal Judge, Solicitor Take Oath of Office
Andrew Roper and Stefanie Drake Burford were sworn in Monday Morning (Jan. 6) to city appointed positions within the municipal court system.
Roper, a graduate of Cedartown High School and a 2005 graduate of the Cumberland School of Law at Samford University, was sworn in as the city’s new chief municipal judge by Superior Court Judge Richard Sutton. A practicing attorney for nine years, Roper’s main duties as municipal judge will be compromised of hearing and ruling on cases including traffic offenses, misdemeanors,misdemeanor drug offenses and ordinance violations
Burford, a graduate of Fayette County High School and a 1999 graduate of St. Thomas University’s School of Law, was also sworn in as the city’s new solicitor by Sutton. She has practiced law for 15 years and her main duty is to prosecute cases within the municipal court
The appointment of the municipal court judge and the city solicitor is carried out by the city commission on an annual basis.
Both were approved and appointed to their respective positions at the Cedartown City Commission meeting in December and will begin their duties immediately. A public swearing in ceremony will take place at the next meeting of the Cedartown City Commission on Jan. 13, 2014 at 6 p.m. The meeting is open to the public and will take place in the Commissioner’s Meeting Room at 201 E. Ave., Cedartown
