In local sports news the Cedartown Lady Dogs and Bulldogs didn’t quite get off to start in 2014 they had hoped for. Both teams were in action Friday night as the hosted Gilmer County and again Saturday as they hosted Coosa. Both the Lady Dogs and the Bulldogs were handed loses Friday night at the hands of the Gilmer County Bobcats. The Lady Dogs lost by a final score of 54-45 against the visiting Lady Bobcats. Cedartown trailed the Lady Bobcats 29-28 at halftime. Senior Arkeria Boozer would finish the night as the Lady Dogs leading scorer with 13 points followed by Junior, Tiara Penson who finished the night with 9 points. Things weren’t any better for the Dogs as they lost to the Bobcats by a final score of 54-41. Quan Neal was the leading scorer for the Bulldogs with 13 points followed by T.J. Ector who finished the night with 9 points and Mason Cox who finished the night with 8 points. Saturday the Lady Dogs would pick up a win against our friends from just north of us. The Lady Dogs defeated the Lady Eagles of Coosa High School by a final score of 54-26. Freshman Tia Covington would lead the scoring effort for the Lady Dogs with 18 points. The Dogs however would not be able to make the turn around like the Lady Dogs as they would drop a game to the Eagles by a final score of 81-54. Cedartown lead much of the first half after jumping out to a 4-0 lead early in the first period. T.J. Ector and Quan Neal would once again lead the scoring effort for the Dogs finishing with 15 and 14 points respectively. Cedartown’s next game will be on the road as they travel to Temple High School to take on the Temple Tigers Tuesday afternoon. Tip off of Tuesday night’s games are scheduled for 6:00pm.
