Two car wreck kills a Cedartown man
A two vehicle accident killed a Cedartown man Friday afternoon. The accident occurred around 12:15pm Friday on Highway 27 South, just North of Dougdown Mountain Road. Crews from Cedartown Fire, 3 Polk County Fire Stations, Redmond EMS and law enforcement officers from Polk County PD, Polk County Sheriff’s and Georgia State Patrol responded to the scene. A Toyota Camry driven by 80-year old Cedartown resident, Frank Carter was struck by a logging truck traveling north after Carter appeared to pull out of Old Highway 27 in the path of the truck. The truck struck Carter’s Camry in the driver’s side and then pushed his car some 100 yards down Highway 27. The log truck flipped, tossing its load of logs into the median and north bound lanes of Highway 27. The truck driver was treated for injuries on the scene before begin transported to the hospital. According to Deputy Coroner Tony Brazier, Carter was pronounced dead at the scene. No charges have been filed in the accident according to the Georgia State Patrol. Funeral services for Mr. Carter will be held this afternoon.
