Old Zartic Plant Fire Destroys Facility
Around 10:30AM this morning, fire crews from Cedartown and Rockmart responded to a fire at the old Zartic location where salvage operations inside the building may have sparked the blaze that could be seen for miles away.
The only injuries came from a nearby building where five workers were trapped by the smoke and flames on the roof until Cedartown Fire and Rescue crews could get them down. All five were taken to the hospital to be checked. Salvage workers inside the old Zartic building made it out safely.
As of right now, the fire still is burning and will probably be burning for some time. Nearby businesses were evacuated and some nearby roads were closed. The roads should reopen as conditions at the old Zartic plant allow.
