Property taxes may be inching upward after the county announced that they intend to adopt an unadjusted millage rate for 2016.
According to a press release from the Polk County Board of Commissioners, the tentative proposed rate of 11.061 mills would increase the property taxes it would levy this year by 0.19 percentages over the rollback millage rate of 11.040 mills.
While the actual tentative millage rate will not increase over last year’s, the change in property values over the year will result in the slight increase in property taxes as determined by the Board of Tax Assessors.
There will be three public hearings held in order for citizens to express their opinions on the proposed increase, as required by Georgia law.
Those hearings will be held on July 26 at 10:00 a.m. and at 6:00 p.m. and on August 2 at 6:00 p.m. at the Board of Commissioners Meeting Room, located at 29 Hugh Hardison Drive in Cedartown.
