Fatal wreck claims the life of 18-year-old Cedartown man

A recent graduate of Cedartown High School was fatally injured Saturday night in a two vehicle collision in Floyd County.

According to Floyd County Police reports, a Nissan Sentra attempted to cross Highway 27 from Booger Hollow Road and was struck on the driver’s side by a GMC Yukon heading southbound.

18-year-old Justin Payton of Cedartown, the driver of the Nissan, was killed in the crash, according to Floyd County Deputy Coroner Ernie Studard.

Payton was a former member of the Cedartown High School Band and member of the CHS Class of 2015. The band posted about the accident late Sunday afternoon. Click here to read.

There were also three other passengers in the Nissan, according to reports.

Two of them were injured and taken to the hospital.

The other was uninjured.

The occupants in the GMC were not hurt.
