The GBI has been tasked in to investigate the death of a man on Monday morning who apparently shot himself while being pulled over by police.

According to Polk County Coroner Tony Brazier, an Aragon Police Officer spotted a vehicle that matched the description of a “Be on the lookout” or “BOLO” issued by another agency.

“The vehicle initially came to a rest as though it was going to stop,” said Brazier. “All of the sudden, there was a gunshot from inside the vehicle that shattered some glass and then the vehicle sped away.”

The vehicle then crashed into the side of a railroad bed on Prospect Road near Aragon.

The man was pronounced dead of an apparent self inflicted gunshot by Brazier on the scene at 10:00 a.m. Monday morning.

Brazier said that while this was not an officer involved shooting, it was standard operational procedure to contact the GBI to conduct the investigation.

The identity of the man has not been released pending notification of family.
