A man convicted of murdering his step-father was sentenced to life in prison Monday in Polk County Superior Court.
According to District Attorney Jack Browning, Curtis Kuhn received the sentenced for the malice murder conviction.
Kuhn was convicted of gunning down his step-father Robert May at his home back in September 2013.
In the trial, Kuhn’s attorneys claimed self defense as the motive for shooting May.
“He had claimed self defense at trial,” said Browning. “Clearly the jury did not buy into that, particularly in light of the fact that this guy fired five shots and four of them found their way into Mr. May’s back.”
“It’s a little bit difficult to swallow any notion of self defense under those circumstances.”
Kuhn was also sentenced to 20 years on the child cruelty charge, which will be served concurrently with the life sentence.
Browning said that Kuhn will be eligible for parole in 30 years, at which time he would be 64 years old.
