County fire units respond to chicken house fire

Polk Co. Fire units work to put out hot spots at a Branch Rd. chicken house

Units of the Polk County Fire Department were called to a Branch Road location to the report of a chicken house on fire.

When firefighters arrived on scene, they found flames in the center of one of the buildings.

Polk County Fire Chief and EMA Director Randy Lacey says there were live chickens in the building at the time, but it is not known how many fell victim to the flames.

“As far as the size of the building, I’d say we had slight to moderate damage to the ceiling and walls,” Lacey said.

“We had it knocked down in about seven minutes.”

It is not known at this time the cause of the fire, but it is not considered suspicious at this time.
