Pharmacy employee among those arrested in alleged drug ring

Three arrests have been made in an alleged organized prescription drug ring in Polk County. One of those arrested worked at a local pharmacy. According to arrest reports, 30 year old Walter Presley was arrested on Friday of last week and charged with conspiracy to possess schedule II hydrocodone. This was the third arrest in a series of drug related arrests in this ongoing investigation. Local drug store employee 23 year old Tyler Presley was arrested back on October 16 along with 23 year old Brittany Sheree Williams on similar charges, including, but not limited to, multiple counts of the following computer forgery, obtaining a prescription by fraud, failure to keep prescription records, obtaining a prescription by misrepresentation, falsifying records, using a communication device to Facilitate a felony, theft, use of false name or address when obtaining a prescription, identity fraud, possession of a controlled substance, distribution of a controlled substance, and conspiracy. Police state the three were members of a Polk County-based organized crime group, which focused on selling and distributing large quantities of schedule II hydrocodone. The three are believed to have been conducting their operation since March 31, 2008. Officials state the approximate street value of the drug allegedly obtained and sold by the three was approximately $110,000.

Apartment fire in Cedartown displaces residents

An apartment complex in Cedartown was damaged by a fire over the weekend. According to fire department officials, the building at 121 Clyde Dr. in Cedartown was fully involved Sunday evening and all off duty firefighters had to be recalled to battle the flames. Police, fire, and EMS were on the scene. It appears that no one was injured and everyone is accounted for. An investigation is underway and more details are expected later.

Ethics complaints against Cedartown City Commission dismissed

Ethics charges levied against two Cedartown City Commissioners have been dismissed by the City of Cedartown ethics committee. George Anderson of Ethics in Government, filed a series of complaints against the commission. The ethics committee found no evidence to support any of Anderson’s complaints and unanimously decided to dismiss the charges. Anderson has levied many ethics complaints all over the state of Georgia. But according the committee members, Chairman Tom Lowe, James Couey, Becky Sweat and George Wheeler, Anderson failed to substantiate any of the charges he accused the commission of.

Accused child molester now in trouble with Floyd Co. Police

A Cedartown man who already is facing several child molestation charges in Polk County now is in trouble with Floyd County Police after being arrested again on similar charges last week. According to arrest reports, James William Hood of a Shiloh Road address in Cedartown was arrested and charged possession of child porn, electronic furnishing of obscene material, and giving obscene material to a minor. He is being held in Floyd County Jail without bond and is also being held for charges in Polk County. Hood faces several charges stemming from a June 25 arrest including 10 counts of child molestation, two counts of aggravated sodomy, two counts of sexual battery, cruelty to children in the first degree, enticing a child for indecent purposes, furnishing alcoholic beverages to someone under 21 years of age, 10 counts of rape and 10 counts of incest.

Two arrested in connection with weekend convenience store robbery

Cedartown Police now have two people in custody after surveillance cameras identify them in a convenience store robbery in Cedartown over the weekend. The robbery took place at the Cedar Discount Food Mart on North Main Street at around 11:45 p.m. Saturday evening. The clerk told police that a white male wearing a mask flashed a gun and demanded money. However, the suspect removed the mask on the way out, giving investigators a clear picture of the suspects face. Police quickly searched the area but initially found nothing. After further examination of the surveillance footage, police had enough evidence to arrest 25 year old Trent Lee Watson on Monday for armed robbery and 19 year old Meagan Elizabeth Brett was for being a party to a crime.

City of Cedartown demolishes condemned property

In an ongoing effort to rid the city of condemned properties and improve the appearance of the city, the city of Cedartown has demolished another property. A vacant house at 305 Stubbs St. was destroyed Tuesday after being left to deteriorate for more than five years. The lot is expected to be completely cleared by the end of the week. Cedartown City Manager Charles Akridge said that the lot will most likely be sold due to the fact that it is located so close to the downtown area.

Aragon woman flees scene in police car after being pulled over

An Aragon woman is under arrest after she fled the scene of an altercation in a stolen Police car. According to Aragon Police officials, 36 year old Tina Michelle Cobb of Dallas was arrested on Friday, October 16 after being pulled over at the intersection of Portland Road and Oakridge Road in Aragon. Cobb apparently became extremely belligerent and backup was called after an Aragon police interceptor was stolen. Cobb wrecked the police car a short time later. She faces charges of obstruction, aggravated assault, aggravated assault on a police officer, DUI, escape, interference with government property, and theft by taking a motor vehicle.

Trailer load overturns at Friendly Bapt. Church Rd.

Police and fire department officials responded to a tractor trailer wreck Sunday evening at the intersection of Lee’s Chapel Road and Friendly Baptist Church Road, just off of the Cedartown Bypass. Apparently, the tractor trailer attempted to turn around and its load jack-knifed and overturned his trailer. The accident completely blocked Friendly Baptist Church Road. No injuries were reported. However, the sheet rock that the truck was hauling was damaged from the overturned trailer. The truck cab did not overturn, according to officials. Two wreckers had to be called in to help remove the tangled up trailer.

Alabama man arrested in Bowdon stabbing incident

Georgia authorities have arrested a 43 year old Graham, Alabama man in connection with a Friday stabbing which resulted in the death of a Georgia man and the wounding of 2 women at a residence in Bowdon Georgia. Carroll County Sheriff Terry Langley says 43-yaer old Duane Clough of Graham, Alabama will be charged with murder, 2-counts of aggravated assault, burglary and potentially more charges after he allegedly forced himself into the home on Fletcher Drive and “viciously beat and stabbed” his estranged wife Michelle Clough, her 62-year old mother Mary Thomas and 34-year old Christopher Todd Watkins of Buchanan. Authorities say Watkins was pronounced dead at the scene while the two-females were rushed to Tanner Medical Center in Carrollton. The mother was later taken to Atlanta Medical with “bleeding on the brain.” Following the incident, the suspect traveled to a relative’s home near Bowdon where he was apprehended by Carroll County Deputies responding to a call to 911.

Cedartown man arrested for ID fraud

Rockmart police have taken a Cedartown man into custody after he allegedly stole financial cards and identification from a purse. Rockmart Police Detective David Gowens said that 24 year old Anthony Wilson of a Cedartown address was served the warrants earlier in the week. Wilson is charged with theft by taking, identification fraud, and financial transaction fraud. No other details into the arrest are available at this time.
