PSD Board of Education approves Scott Hendrix as new football head coach and athletic director at CHS

CEDARTOWN – On Tuesday night February 9, 2010, the Polk School District Board of Education approved Scott Hendrix as the new head football coach and athletic director at Cedartown High School.

Scott Hendrix is a veteran of 21 football seasons. During that time he has coached teams that have won seven region championships, one sub-region championship, and made thirteen play-off appearances.

The highlight of his coaching career took place at Cedartown High School.  He spent seven years as an assistant at Cedartown. During that time CHS was fortunate enough to win three region championships, make two appearances in the Georgia Dome for the state semi-finals, and played for the state championship in 2001.

The great years at Cedartown gave him the opportunity to lead his own football program when he was hired as the Head Football coach at Leeds High School in Leeds, AL. He spent two years there reviving a program that was struggling. During this time he laid the foundation on which to build a winning program.  Under his direction construction began on a weight room, locker room, and player participation more than doubled in two years.

Since 2006 he has served as the Offensive Coordinator and Assistant Principal at Pierce County High School, in Blackshear, Georgia. In the four years he has been at Pierce County, they have accumulated more wins than any other four year span in school history. This is his second stint at Pierce County High. He served as offensive and defensive line coach from 1993-1997.

He began coaching in 1989 at Mt. Zion High School. He spent four years there, where they won three region championships and made the play-offs every year.  He has a wife and two children. His wife, Amanda, is an elementary school teacher. They have two boys, Landon 12, and Grant 8.

Coach Hendrix stated “I am honored to have been chosen to lead the football program at Cedartown High School. Some of the best memories of my life have taken place while I was coaching at Cedartown High. While guaranteeing a number of wins is impossible, I can guarantee that every effort will be made to field a team that represents CHS and the community of Cedartown in a way that makes everyone proud to be a Bulldog.” The Polk School District Board of Education has approved the hiring of Scott Hendrix to be the new head coach and athletic director at Cedartown High School. More details will be released Wednesday morning.
