The Rockmart Homespun Festival will be this weekend in downtown Rockmart in Seaborn Jones Park. The festival will begin Friday, July 16th at 6:00 p.m. with entertainment. Saturday morning will kick off with the Homespun 5K Race at 8:00 a.m. There will also be a “Fun Run” for ages 5-11, and a “Tot Trot” for ages 2-5. The “Fun Run” will begin at 9:00 a.m. and the cost is $15 and the 5K is $25. The Homespun parade will be at 10:00 a.m. in downtown. Entertainment will continue throughout the day along with several different varieties of food. The festival will conclude Saturday night with a fireworks show at 10:00 p.m.

The Turner Street Community Building at Turner Street Park is getting a makeover. The Home Depot along with Wal-Mart are providing supplies and workers for the renovation. The renovation will begin on Thursday, July 15, 2010. Work will begin at 8:00 a.m. and continue until 5:00 p.m. on both Thursday and Friday. McDonald’s, another partner, will be providing food for all workers and volunteers for the two day project. (more…)

DDP will be wrestling at The Purks as he teams up with his friend Air Paris to take on the Purks Heavyweight Champion “The Butcher” Bobby Hayes and Alexander the Great. Well this weekend, Polk County residents will have the opportunity to watch some great rodeo action at the fairgrounds. The International Professional Rodeo Association (IPRA) and the Southern Rodeo Association (SRA) will be competing together today and Saturday, June 5-6 in Cedartown as the 32nd annual Cedar Valley Shrine Club Rodeo will be held at the Cedar Valley Shrine Arena at the Fairgrounds. The event will start at 8 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and will feature bull riding, bareback riding, saddle bronc riding, calf roping, steer wrestling, cowgirl barrel racing and team roping.
