Fan Give-A-Way: Help to Battle the Heat

The City of Cedartown Fire Department, along with the Junior Service League and The Exchange Club will be sponsoring a fan give-a-away this Friday and Saturday – June 29th and 30th. Due to the predicted temperatures of 104, these organizations have joined forces to help those who will suffer most during this extreme weather.

A limited number of fans will be available, so we ask only those who have no air conditioning, the elderly and families with small children request this assistance.

Fans will be available starting at 10:00am Friday, June 29th till 5:00pm and 10:00am Saturday, June 30th till 3:00pm or until supplies are exhausted.

You must bring with you: identification and the address the fan will be used at. There is a limit of one per household.

If you are an elderly individual who can not make it down to the Fire Department, or have an elderly relative who can not make it, you can call the Fire Department with the individual’s name and address and a crew will deliver the fan to them.

PSD Filling District 6 Vacancy

The Polk County Board of Education will be accepting letters of interest or resumes for the purpose of selecting a qualified individual to fill the unexpired term of Crystal Sproull, District 6, until a successor is elected during the November general election.The person elected to fill the vacancy in November will take office immediately after the election and serve through December 31st, 2014.

Interested parties must be a current resident and registered voter in District 6. They must also meet all other qualifications set forth by law to serve on the Board of Education. For more information about the qualification, contact the school district office.

CHS Homecoming Parade

The annual Homecoming parade will be held on Friday, Sept. 30 at 4:30 p.m. on Main Street. Community league football teams, cheerleaders, and other community entries are encouraged to participate.

The homecoming football game will follow at Cedartown Memorial Stadium at 7:30 p.m. Halftime events will include the presentation of class representatives and the crowning of the homecoming queen.

It’s Time for the Annual Fall Festival

       It is almost time for the annual Fall Festival here in Downtown Cedartown, and it is a jam packed event that you and your family do not want to miss.

        The festivities will take place on Saturday, October 1st beginning at 9am and going until midnight.

        Live entertainment will be provided all day, including local groups such as: Young’s Grove drama team, Northside and Young’s Grove Elementary schools, Second Steps Dance Studio, a Children’s Gospel Choir, local country music artist Cindy Smith, and much more.

        According to Main Street Director Ramona Ruark, there will be a Fashion Show at 2pm. This show will be put on by the local retailers of Cedartown.

        There will be a block party from 7-11pm. The featured band will be “Scratch Off John.” This is certainly a day you don’t want to miss.

        All citizens are reminded that there will be no thru traffic from Ware St. to Sterling Holloway Place on the day of the event.
